Got the lego gameboy at Legoland, and am kind of blown away by how perfect it is.

Fun fact: It comes with 421 bricks, a reference to the release date, April 21 1989. The serial number on the back refers to it as well.

I’ve always known this date by heart, because that is exact day I too was born!

I don’t do any audio work, but just spent an hour watching a really thoughtful and entertaining essay on remaking Audacity 🎧 Interesting to learn how open source tools are remade, especially all of the UX and HCD stuff.

Friends, for something to be open source, we need to see

1. The data it was trained & evaluated on

2. The code

3. Model architecture

4. Model weights.

DeepSeek only gives 3, 4. And I'll see the day that anyone gives us #1 without being forced to do so, because all of them are stealing data.

Spent a long time exploring Wright-Fisher model. And made a shinylive app!

Trying to stay productive with a sick toddler and an infant, running on <4 hours of sleep, guys I may have lost it.

Messing around with shinylive. For real, how are people not freaking out?!!

Zero hosting costs, no online requirements, no installation required, nothing not a damn thing.

Really trying to make an effort not to get caught up in the stupid Trump news cycle again, but with Greenland on his grocery list it’s damn near impossible.

Hi hello, I wrote up a talk I've given a few time to uni students, on exploratory data analysis with demographics data.

Both of my kids got their legal names by me filling out a form on my phone, truly an age of wonders we live in.

Not even a laptop, just my fat thumbs racing across an iPhone SE screen. Honestly, they’re lucky their names didn’t autocorrect into something dumb.

Hot take (i guess): Answering a data question by someone needing your help with a snarky “depends on what you mean by x, y and z” doesn’t make you sound smart, it makes you sound kinda mean.

When I was 5, I loved science, which I took to be planets and magnets and chemicals and shit.

Soon I realized science was a collective human activity, and these were just the objects of its attention.

Anyway, whenever I read an OpEd on how science isn't political, I think "Are you 5 years old?"

I have yet to read anything even remotely as beautiful as this ascii-only gamefaqs walkthrough of Super Metroid with even margins, by rs1n.

No double spaces, just careful choice of words.

Gorgeous poetry.
