The district court’s block of Trump’s national guard deployment in Chicago is upheld by 7th Court of Appeals: “political opposition is not rebellion.” Truth!

Federal district courts can most effectively block Trump’s misuse of power by holding to the facts. There is no “danger of rebellion” in Chicago or in Portland. Trump lies — and that should override any judicial deference to a president on appeal.

Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma just criticized deployment of Texas National Guard to Illinois as a violation of his beliefs in federalism and states’ rights. “Oklahomans would lose their mind if Pritzker in Illinois sent troops down to Oklahoma.” About time a Republican spoke up about this!

This Fourth of July, I’m thinking of how proud I am of all the people who protested “No Kings.” I believe in the fundamental goodness and strength of so many people in this country. And I believe we can find a way to live with our differences. In that spirit, I wish all a Happy 4th!

we buried our eyes in the arms of the ones that we clinged to. A wave of intense heat came over us, and I woke myself up. And my room looked so normal, it took a moment before it seemed real. Strangely, the sense of powerlessness still hasn’t dissipated. (4/4)
