I’m either on the wrong side of this app or it’s basically all national politics. I don’t dig it. I’ll be on Substack.

All I can think today is yall will probably want to conserve your energy. There’s gonna be plenty to be outraged by in the next four years. Breaaaaathe.

Eating frozen cherries and watching 13 going on 30, which is the exact level of cringe/silly I expected. I kinda get why people watch Hallmark movies.

School is canceled due to cold tomorrow, and I can’t think of a better day to not leave the fucking house.

I can’t find it now, but yesterday I read that WKOW, the local ABC affiliate, was no longer hiring its own meteorologists, rather using the big media owned sources. I saw a whole to-do a couple weeks ago about Bob Lindmeier retiring, after 45 years. Sounds like that was all a warm fuzzy load of shit

If the whole TikTok thing teaches anyone anything it’s that we are all just witnessing a really poorly written play that a handful of people are putting on at our expense. Now is the time to invest in community media.

We need to be building a whole constellation of small, flexible, independently owned media outlets—collaborative but very decentralized. The people who own the big, consolidated media companies are not going to be a firewall for press freedom, even if the journalists they employ do good work
Holy cow. Executives at CBS’s parent company have discussed settling Trump’s lawsuit against CBS News/60 Minutes, because they need the Trump administration to sign off on a planned corporate merger. www.wsj.com/business/med...

It would be really great if my laptop would just save shit all to the same place instead of some of it being on One Drive, some of it on the PC, and some of it… god knows where?

All due respect, a march without specific asks isn’t going to accomplish anything. Have we learned nothing from pink pussy hats? Sigh

No snow on the ground, no snow expected but feeling the urgency to get out and get things done/get some sun on my face before it gets horribly cold the next three days. What do y’all have planned for indoor activities?

Every solo weekend begins with scrubbing my bathrooms. Nothing is right until the bathrooms are scrubbed. I’m not expecting company. Nope. Just for me.

Considering Substack, since most of my social presence has been on FB and quite wordy. How do people feel about it?
January 16, 2025 at 8:57 PM
Definitely going to be outside as much as possible the next few days. I can bundle and hang with the cold, but not when it’s too cold to breathe.

Went on my stupid walk for my stupid mental health and did a little in a park for extra steps. There was a whole fam of deer sitting/resting in this wooded area in a nearby yard. I don’t think I’ve ever seen deer not standing like that. Of course they were on alert when they saw me. Sorry friends!

Super nerdy local politics folks know what today is! Allllll the campaign finance reports are due and up on the city clerks website. 👀 These first ones from everything through December 31 aren’t quite as meaty, but the pre-primary and pre-election are definitely quite interesting..

Madison Common Council tonight: Regardless of how you feel about the Hartmeyer Ice Arena situation, you have to admit it’s quite adorable how many kids are in the room and learning about the civic engagement experience.

The waiting area of the credit union this morning. They have an electric fireplace. It was not on. It’s a polar vortex ‘round these parts. The electric fireplace would have made the experience cozier, just sayin

My bed felt so good waking up this morning. Perfect weight of blankets/sheets, perfect temp, comfortable body position. I was able to notice that without the rush of an alarm/somewhere to be/something to do immediately. I know not everyone experienced that today, so feeling gratitude that I could.

(2/2) I use FB to connect with friends and stay on top of local events. I also run a few groups, which is the only thing I really check lately. So that means over half of the content on this app I do not want and didn’t ask for.

In addition to the latest goings on. this is why FB sucks.

Why Meta sucks, just one reason. I scrolled and tallied up the content from the first 100 posts I saw. Not including reels or stories.

Friends/pages I follow 36%
Ads 31%
Groups/pages I don’t follow 23%
Event suggestions 8%
Groups I follow 2%

@madisonlibrary.bsky.social has native seeds available as of today! I am making it a goal to go by Lakeview Library this week to pick some up. Though I have many saved from last season, I’m sure they have few varieties I don’t!
