My eldest son is getting into Earthbound! He loves Super Smash Bros, and when he gets into a character he'll go back and check out the games they come from. It's Ness's turn, and I couldn't be more excited to share this with him!

My eldest son is getting into Earthbound! He loves Super Smash Bros, and when he gets into a character he'll go back and check out the games they come from. It's Ness's turn, and I couldn't be more excited to share this with him!
Re-reading one of my favorite horror novels in celebration of October! Parts of this book have haunted my dreams for over a decade now. I still remember staying up until 2 AM reading the part in the asylum and giving myself nightmares. It's a fantastically scary and funny book, and it's cheap rn.

Watching the Garfield movie with my kids and it struck me: it's wild how often Animal Control are depicted as sadistic animal-hating crooked cops in kids' media, when in reality they make personal sacrifices and risk life and limb just to save animal life and ameliorate animal suffering.

The problem so many film/TV adaptations of Garfield have is that the antagonist of the comic strip Garfield is Garfield himself. So when you move him to a more protagonistic role you lose a lot of what makes him compelling as a character.

Localization for early PSX RPGs was quite rough. It only lasted a couple of years, but it created this unique and irreplaceable vibe. The phrasing felt slightly but noticeably off, and it added to the feeling of being immersed in a strange world. I wonder if there's a way to recapture that feeling.
