In his later years, the Swiss-born philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau came upon a periwinkle #wildflower growing in a hedgerow, and was stirred by memories of a youthful love and happier days long past. Since then, the periwinkle has symbolised “tender recollections”. #folklore

A Tody Motmot perched on a thin branch. The bird is very small with a rounded body and a short tail. It has a tiny, slender beak. Its plumage is lemon green on the back, upper breast, and the first third of the wings. On the belly, breast, and undertail, the green gradually changes to a whitish-green. The wings transition to black tips as you move from the green base to the final third. The head has brown patches and cyan patches above the eyes, as well as black feathers behind the eyes. A Common Bush Tanager perched on a branch in the sunlight. The bird is small with a rounded body and a medium-length tail. The belly, breast, and undertail are olive green with some gray feathers. The back, tail, and wings are a darker green with some brownish-gray feathers. The head is dusty brown with patches around the eyes that extend slightly to the back. It has brown eyes. A Bright-rumped Attila perched on a branch under a dense green canopy. The bird has an oval-shaped body. Its lower breast and belly are white. The undertail and some back feathers are pale yellowish-green. The wings and tail are a very dark olive/brown green. The head and upper breast are a green olive tone mixed with yellowish patches, which contrast with its brown eyes.

POwls in this conservation park haven't been monitored for a few years. It was a new area for us and as every tree looked as though it should house a Powerful Owl it was especially exciting to look up and see these 2 new healthy owlets! #birds #wildoz

One of my favorite nature preserves is Botany Bay on Edisto Island in South #Carolina USA. The preserve provides to me a nearby retreat from winter weather at my home in the mountains. The marsh and beach habitats there are changing from seawater rise.

Male Powerful Owl in suburban Brisbane enjoying some sunshine after many days of rain. During the storms he and his family moved to day roosts that they don't usually use, but they moved back to their usual area once the wet was over.

This Powerful Owlet was trilling constantly when we checked on it mid afternoon. This is quite unusual, during the day they will sometimes do the odd trill, sometimes a bit more if they are being mobbed. Possibly it missed dinner as there was a lot of rain the previous night #brisbane #birds #wildoz

Good morning!

We see much more than #orchids on our spring tour in Rhodes. Among the other flowers we enjoy are Crown Anemones (Anemone coronaria). They paint the landscape with a range of colourful blooms, from a palette of red, deep pink, blue, violet & white.
