On a sacred quest to increase the pace of economic growth at the Abundance Institute. On the side of the builders. tfp/acc 🚀
I've become kind of obsessed with how to get the cost of personal aircraft down.

Example: A new Cirrus SR22 costs around $1.1 million and weighs 1,111 kg without fuel. Call it $1,000/kg.

A Tesla Model Y (long range AWD) costs around $50k and weighs around 1,980 kg. Call it $25/kg.

I drove 8+ hours today, and then looked up how much a charter flight for the same route (local airport) would be. Under $6k round trip for 4 passengers in a PC-12.

Not quite affordable but cheaper than I expected. If we had had more innovation in aviation over the last 50 years, it could work.

It would be cool if we could attach PDFs to skeets just like other media. 🤓

Posted on bird site:

I want a simple chronological timeline without threading, and I want the app to save state about location within that timeline across relaunches and devices.

I had that with Tweetbot, but then Twitter disabled third-party clients, and my experience has been worse since.

This is a fun one. White to move. Mate in one. Watch out for pins. Can you find it?

Touching profile of geothermal instigator Jamie Beard, who is a force of nature. I’m proud to know her.

While Yudkowsky is warning us about AI killing everyone, Lina Khan suggests that the AI era could be as chaotic as having social media companies sell ads based on personal data.

LMAO.

Unfortunately bsky doesn’t have video uploads yet, so you have to go to bird site to watch video of a Ukrainian drone exploding inside the walls of the Kremlin.

That’s a long way from actually killing Putin, but getting closer…

Is it possible to expose how many users are blocking a given user? Maybe it should be listed alongside followers and following on users’ profiles. Like a decentralized reputation score. @jay.bsky.team

Walking my dog this morning, I saw a Lamborghini Urus parked on the street.

I am completely baffled as to why anyone would buy such a thing.

I get wanting a Lambo. A Lambo SUV feels like such a waste, though.

Thinking about the future of AT Protocol, it seems that at some point there will need to be subrepos, just like git has submodules.

Like if I’m building a subprotocol that requires hosting a ton of video data, Bluesky itself may not want to host all of it, and a subrepo seems like a good solution.

Just had a great experience with Github Copilot for CLI. Gave me a complex ffmpeg command I never would have figured out on my own. Without it, I probably would have just not done the thing.

Morning thought:

Eastern philosophy (and some iconoclastic Western philosophers like Parfit) basically believes that personal identity is a myth. We are all contingent on everything else.

It’s very hard to live like that.

But what if we all turned the personal identity knob down by 10%? 20%?

Doing the thing with the kids where you play “Roxanne” and they have to do burpees every time they hear the word Roxanne. Everyone does this right?
