Poultry agribusiness doesn't want you to know that mass chicken making, in factory farms, fuels avian flu. So they don't question that model, in eg their "2026 Avian Influenza Preparedness Framework." We need new models. That's one reason I don't eat chicken. www.eleanorboyle.com/there-is-som...

Farmers who lease machinery often aren't allowed to fix it themselves. It's one way Big Ag corps control farmers, says nfucanada.bsky.social, supporting a Right to Repair. For the big picture I'm reading @jennifer-clapp.bsky.social & her Titans of Industrial Agriculture.

I was moved by PM Mark Carney’s gutsy and nuanced talk at Davos. Nobody’s perfect, and I wish he’d talk more about climate, alt energy, and moving away from extractive industries. But like W Churchill in WWII Britain, he’s got the vision and ideas to inspire us.
We can build walls or we can be more ambitious — and build something better, stronger, and more just.

I'd sign, but the petition is restricted to UK citizens. Mandatory meat sounds like the work of agribusiness, not of science. I'd urge UK citizens to nudge officials that more plant-based is what's needed for health and environment. @stephengermeney.bsky.social @plantbasednews.bsky.social

Great point, Annie. Our tastes are not, if I may say, baked-in but happily can change over time!
Studies have confirmed: when we stop eating meat, we tend to quickly lose a yearning for it shorturl.at/LpOaw. UK agriculture is dominated by livestock farming, & it’s not in its interest to point that out.
It’s an uphill to die on but I’ll keep stressing: whole food plant-based diets are win-win!

There are some surprising impacts of cutting out meat, even for a short period, which can carry on well beyond the end of abstinence.

Plus, key "scientists" were allied with meat and dairy. The good news is that evidence-based revisions can occur. In Canada, in the most recent Food Guide revision process, a gutsy Health Minister disallowed food lobbyists. The evidence is on the govt site. food-guide.canada.ca/en/development
More is coming to light about how we got the inconsistent & contradictory new guidelines. Much of it came about because the evidence was cherry-picked. 1/
We got the upside-down dietary guidelines from political maneuvering, not a science-based process. It has a scientific committee, touted as backing this report, but it likely installed to justify pre-held beliefs of RFK Jr & MAHA, who love animal products 1/ www.businessinsider.com/rfk-new-diet...

It IS possible to exclude meat / food lobbyists from getting special access. In Canada, our gutsy Health Minister disallowed food lobbyists in the the last revision process to Canada's Food Guide. So true @sentientmedia.org that industrial animal factories get only a fraction of the criticism they deserve despite impacts on planetary, animal, & human well-being. I've analysed excuses from activists, govts & policy-makers on why they don't talk about meat. www.eleanorboyle.com/blog/the-obs...

Surprise! The new U.S. dietary guidelines were heavily influenced by researchers with professional ties to meat and dairy industries. Sigh. #eatlessmeat #canadafoodguide

Canada's recent move is exciting -- to launch a National School Food Program. Now let's encourage the program to offer plenty of plant-based meals and plant-based milks.
Taylor Meek, Development & Project Coordinator: "I liked this story because it is an extension of previous coverage I’ve followed on the battle of schools vs plant-based milk. This feels like a huge shift that has the potential to impact millions!"

Me too, Eliot. I'm a long-time fan of @brucefriedrich.bsky.social, and of @jandutkiewicz.bsky.social. I wouldn't have expected JanD to argue for industrial food, but given his past work, I'm intrigued. Thanks for reminding me to pre-order, now done through a locally-owned Vancouver store. :-)
