Last night the EU Environment Ministers and EU Climate Commissioner reached an agreement on the 2040 target 🎯 & an NDC for 2035 just in time for Bélem where countries are expected to submit ambitious 2035 climate targets.

What does this mean?⬇️

Ireland is yet to produce a draft #SocialClimatePlan. The consultation process that closed on the 23rd of October fell short of the inclusive and iterative participation model envisaged by the Social Climate Fund Regulation and Commission Guidance.

No plan 🟰 No meaningful participation
📢Endorsed by over 37 CSOs including CAN Europe, a new briefing by @ceebankwatch.bsky.social & @rescoop.eu analysed the Social Climate Plans of 19 EU Member States in terms of public participation, effectiveness in targeting vulnerable households, investments & policy alignment.

Later this year the Commission is set to propose a Democracy Shield, aiming to address the most severe risks to democracy in the EU and build on the work already done under the European Democracy Action Plan and the Defence of Democracy Package.
