Last night the EU Environment Ministers and EU Climate Commissioner reached an agreement on the 2040 target 🎯 & an NDC for 2035 just in time for Bélem where countries are expected to submit ambitious 2035 climate targets.

What does this mean?⬇️

Ireland is yet to produce a draft #SocialClimatePlan. The consultation process that closed on the 23rd of October fell short of the inclusive and iterative participation model envisaged by the Social Climate Fund Regulation and Commission Guidance.

Quote from Sven Harmeling, Head of Climate, CAN Europe: ‘The scientists have spoken that the EU can and must deliver a 90-95% domestic emissions cut by 2040 - without loopholes or international offsets. Undermining the target with so-called ‘flexibilities’ would jeopardise fairness, delay innovation and increase long-term costs. The European Commission, Member States and the European Parliament must trust the science, act early and adopt 2035 and 2040 targets that are aligned with climate reality’.
