We begin another months-in-the-making three-parter with the story of Labour. In part one (up to 1939): why it was a fractious coalition from day one, how it overtook the Liberals to become a party of government, and why Ramsay MacDonald went from hero to treacherous villain. Contains foreshadowing
🚨NEW EPISODE🚨 Welcome back to Origin Story season eight: The Story of Socialism. This week, in the year of its 125th anniversary, @iandunt.bsky.social and @dorianlynskey.bsky.social begin the tale of the UK Labour Party, from Keir Hardie to Keir Starmer 👉 linktr.ee/originstoryp...

A lovely story about Dr Jane Goodall's career & legacy, from Rachel Fieldhouse & Mohana Basu, in @nature.com www.nature.com/articles/d41.... Includes some comments from me about how researchers _can also_ be advocates and science communicators, and still be taken seriously (I hope)!

This article is more optimistic than the headline suggests. I think it is actually about the West's decision to hand the future economy to China and the East. The speed of the energy transition in China is good for the world and, geopolitically, bad for the West as it inexplicably relegates itself

As far as I can tell, @zackpolanski.bsky.social is one of the bravest people in the country at the moment. The more Labour and the Tory press attack him, the more the vast majority of decent Britain will tune in to his positive message. Fear may be contagious but so is courage!
The Prime Minister can call me names - “plastic progressive”? (Nope, me neither!)

Meanwhile, I’m travelling across England and Wales, meeting people fired up and ready for change.

We’re going to turn this country around – and no one gets left behind.

Oh this is just unspeakably ridiculous. Starmer was even part of a coup against a Labour leader in 2016 and didn't lose the whip at the time (as he shouldn't have). These are decent and popular Labour MPs. Is this possibly the most paranoid whips office of recent times?
Four whip suspensions -

- Rachael Maskell
- Brian Leishman
- Neil Duncan Jordan
- Chris Hinchliff

Three others are removed as trade envoys

- Rosena Allin Khan
- Mohammed Yasin
- Bell Ribeiro-Addy
Sources confirm that Labour suspending at least three MPs - others could follow and some expected to get warnings.

They are three new MPs - Neil Duncan Jordan who spoke out first against winter fuel, Chris Hinchliff who led rebellion on planning and Brian Leishman.

Possible there could be more

🌡️☔ New report | The UK isn't prepared for the impacts of climate change, and they're already here.

Nearly 3k deaths from excess heat in 2022. £2.4bn annual flooding costs. 6m homes at flood risk.

Yet 2/3 of #adaptation actions are inadequate for the scale of the challenge.
