A little late again, but this is from a smaller ficlet WIP exclusively for my #ReamStories account! It's a Beauty and the Beast inspired omegaverse story for those curious haha, except that the witch has turned the prince into something other than a monster 👀

He knows that voice. That is Sir Bellamy, a captain within the crown guard. He's had a command since before Beaumont presented. But most pressing: he's an alpha. Most of the crown guards are. And if he has brought other knights with him -- “Do not enter,” he orders, as loud as he can, even though his voice wavers. There is a pause, and then another voice -- Sir Jacquez, Beaumont recognizes -- responds, “Your Highness, you have not taken a meal in days. Your people are concerned.” Beaumont gives a bark of a bitter laugh, but then he grits his teeth. “I will eat when I desire. Leave me be.” “Your Highness --” “I said leave me be!” His voice cracks on the last word of the shout, and he buries his face into the mattress, his eyes stinging suddenly. He can't stand any of this. It isn't fair. The face of the witch flashes in his mind, her words echoing around in his skull. Let you see what it is like to be the weaker. Beaumont exhales shakily through his nose, and clenches a fist into the sheets.

If you stumble into one of the sinkholes within the limestone formations that inch towards beaches of rock and sand, you might just find yourself dropping a good twenty feet or more into the halocline depths below. And, if you are not careful, you can slip into the crawling submerged tunnels beneath, too. And this specific cenote, the one he can hardly see in the moonlight as he creeps through the jungle underbrush towards his best guess of where it might be -- Well. His eldest cousins have always told him in whispers around campfires that the largest tunnel beneath the sinkhole’s gap leads to the mouth of the Underworld. But as much as he isn't meant to be here, the other side is exactly where Dresden intends to be. So along and along he crawls, pebbles and rougher branches digging into the palms of his hands as he feels along the ground for an incline down.
