I didn’t expect it, but I really do like #pico8 very much. I’ve created something in @love-framework.bsky.social before, and looked at @godotengine.org all very cool. but there’s something relaxing about those limitations. maybe it forces me to actually finish a game for once. that would be nice.

As a game designer, I have opinions on crunch vs "flavor". If a game unifies too excessively, and all characters play EXACTLY the same, I don't consider it an interesting game. It might play fine, and make good stories (my own GOSS game is like that), but dedicated mechanics for subsystems is nice.

We knew from the start we can’t get everything right. Moderation is a hard problem, and it’s impossible to please everyone. So we built a protocol where you always have the right to leave. If you don’t trust us, or don’t like our decisions, you deserve the right to choose an alternative.
