*Cascading mass loss of Antarctic ice shelves triggered by iceberg collisions*

In 2021, giant icebergs hit Dronning Maud Land ice shelves in #Antarctica, causing a chain reaction of calving & major regional ice-shelf area loss. 💥
Cascading mass loss of Antarctic ice shelves triggered by iceberg collisions
Iceberg calving accounts for about half of Antarctic ice-shelf mass loss. We used satellite imagery to analyze annual ice-shelf front changes and major calving events over eight years from austral sum...

Thanks and oops! yes, here is the photo and article about the competition :) www.nature.com/immersive/d4...

Can’t believe I was interviewed about my winning photo in the @nature.com contest on @npr.org’s All Things Considered!
I grew up listening to this show, so it feels incredibly surreal to be on it.

It’s always fun to teach outside of the typical classroom! This afternoon I taught a lab for @uitnorgesarktiske.bsky.social biology bachelor students at the Polar Museum on Marine mammal biodiversity 🐋🦭🐻‍❄️🦦

Excited to have contributed to this study where we tracked 29 sperm whales in the North Atlantic! 🐳

Some traveled nearly 8000km and dove deeper then 1000m! 🛰️🌊 www.nature.com/articles/s41...
