ERR has published it's budget for 2026

Despite the tight budget, ERR will broadcast the year's significant events - including Eesti Laul and Eurovision.

For JESC entusiats, there is unfortunately no mention of Tähtede Lava and/or JESC.

The year 2026 will be eventful for Estonian Public Broadcasting, but financially challenging. It will be challenging because rapid inflation and VAT increases over the last 4-5 years have sharply reduced the purchasing power, or real value, of ERR's budget (see Appendix 3). This is felt by employees whose salary levels have not kept pace with inflation and whose 6-7% salary increase in 2026 (the first increase in several years) will be many times lower than the cumulative inflation rate. But it is also felt by the editorial offices and programs as a whole, as they have had to continuously cut back on show formats and abandon many activities that were previously possible. Various targeted funding and project grants help a little, but if the editorial offices had sufficient funding, they would prefer not to involve them, as they inevitably raise questions about independence. In the current situation, however, they help to add a little color and diversity to the broadcasting network. Appendix 2. ERR's budget relative to macroeconomic indicators

Noep: My first record label told me I'm not allowed to participate in Eurovision

The year that is coming to an end has been significant for musician Andres Kõpper in many ways – in the spring, he celebrated Noep's tenth birthday in the Krull quarter, and in the fall, it was announced that he had reached the final of Eesti Laul for the first time as a solo artist. Kõpper said that participating in Eesti Laul as Noep is significant because when he started as a solo artist in 2015, Sony Music Sweden, the first record label he was signed to, told him that he could not go to Eurovision. "I don't know if it was actually written in the contract, but one thing my A&R (artists and repertoire , the department of a record company that develops an artist's career - editor) who communicates with the artist on behalf of the record company said was that I definitely couldn't participate in Eurovision because then you're a Eurovision artist and it's hard for us to sell you as a cool artist," he recalled. Kõpper believes that attitudes towards participating in Eurovision have changed today. "For a while, Eurovision was dominated by a very specific type of artist. For me, the turning point was when Portuguese artist Maro participated in Eurovision (in 2022 – ed.). When she participated and I remixed her song "Saudade, saudade," I redefined Eurovision in my own mind," the artist revealed. Noep's first single, "Move," immediately broke into both domestic and international charts. For example, it reached #32 on Spotify's list of globally viral songs. "I was lucky that when I released my first song, "Move," in 2015, the kind of music I really liked was popular at the time. It plays an incredibly important role whether the frequency that excites you also excites radio stations or streaming platforms, for example," he said, explaining the reasons behind the success of his debut song. Kõpper has said that he wants his song "Days Like This," which is participating in Eesti Laul, to bring joy to listeners during these gloomy times. He compared it to a good, uplifting film that stays with the viewer long after they've seen it. "I hope that when people listen to 'Days Like This,' even if they are feeling down, they will feel that they can still get up and climb the hill with a smile on their face.
