@rsagarcia.bsky.social Thank you so much for talking about the complexity of the Superman character in today’s virtual discussion. I argue this point all the time!

Hey, #Editors & #WritingCommunity! 👋🏻

I've just topped up the scholarships for all my self-paced courses again!

There's a limited number of scholarship spots for editors and writers from marginalized groups.

They're first-come, first-serve, no questions asked.

I keep hammering this point. GenAI doesn't save time, it just kicks that time/work down the road, usually to someone else who now has to deal with it.
"AI is creating new work that cancels out some potential time savings from using AI in the first place.

One very stark example, there are a lot of teachers who now say they spend time trying to detect whether their students are using ChatGPT to cheat on their homework."
When you hear that generative AI is like the printing press or Google, please remember that researchers are finding it has had a middling impact. #EduSky

In the past day I’ve heard two people who really should know better say they asked ChatGPT for factual info.

ChatGPT is not a search engine. It is predictive text based on other people’s stolen writing; its whole job is to make stuff up. Please do not ask it for facts. Tell a friend.

This is great news, and I hope the organizers take to heart what @paulconstant.com has pointed out about the absence of writing and writers at Bumbershoot this year and include them at Cannonball. You know, in the downtown of our UNESCO City of Literature.

If you're a company considering using predictive AI to generate your website copy: don't. Just hire a human to write the copy instead. Trust me, people will know, and they won't think well of you, if you use phrases like "boldly whispers an unexpected design, meshing time to its liking."
