I don’t think I have ever publicly criticized any Presidential nominee before.
But E.J. Antoni is completely unqualified to be BLS Commissioner. He is an extreme partisan and does not have any relevant expertise.
He would be a break from decades of nonpartisan technocrats.

I’m glad Marisa mentioned this. In certain circles there is - correctly! - laser focus on this catastrophe but it can be hard to get the story through to people, in no small part because it’s so upsetting and bleak and enraging that some deep part of people shuts down and rejects it.
I think it’s worth noting this piece generated the most unsubscribes I’ve seen in a while, and the newsletter version had the lowest open rate in many months. These horrors persist in part because too many people go to great pains to avoid them.

This is horrific. And it is happening under our watch (and, even worse, with our assistance).
In Gaza, finding food, which was already scarce, has become a deadly endeavor. Our reporter explains why.

How Seeking Food in Gaza Has Become So Deadly
Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed over the past month near aid hubs set up under a new Israeli-backed system, according to Gaza health officials.

Walking on campus, I was just thinking how hard it is to be a grad student. It was by far the hardest thing I have done professionally, and there were many days (and nights!) when I was certain I would never come up with a job market paper (or, any paper, really). Grad students, hang in there!🤗

My coauthor @jasonbcook.bsky.social & I recently showed that making parents of younger children comply with SNAP Work Requirements does nothing but take food away from the neediest families.
These parents don't work any more because they face barriers to work.
