Little bit of a down year for me on the observation side (dissertation writing I suppose), but made 100+ identifications to make up for it! @inaturalist.bsky.social www.inaturalist.org/stats/2025/k...

Some good news, @ecokatsully.bsky.social successfully defended her dissertation. The lab celebrated with a Milwaukee specialty, an enormous Bloody Mary with, among other things, an entire fried chicken garnish - a drink/meal known as the ‘Bloody Beast’.
Congratulations, Dr Sullivan!! 🧪

Just saw this on the other site. Not good. We must preserve, protect, and advocate for biological collections and the museums who care for them

Rage coding this morning using #TidyTuesday NSF grant terminations data.

Research in STEM Education and Social, Behavioral, & Economic Science is clearly being targeted by the current administration.

I made a lot of depressing #rstats plots, check them out

Seeing so many of these as postdoctoral fellowships is so disheartening. The research budgets are minuscule but having a fully funded salary abruptly terminated is horrifying.
NEW: Here are the terminated grants by division, from an NSF source. Total is 434, higher than DOGE's claim of 402.
Top 3 divisions:
Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings - 51
Equity for Excellence in STEM - 50
Engineering Education and Centers - 43

Tax Day next up: NSF!
🛰️ $40 a year. That’s what the average U.S. taxpayer pays annually to fund the National Science Foundation.

💡 Science isn’t luxury - it’s infrastructure.
From disaster prediction to cybersecurity to the tech in your phone, NSF powers the systems that keep society running.

Had the pleasure of taking part of MPM's (@mkepublicmuseum.bsky.social) Inside out event tonight! Interacting with my community and sharing our cool bee science lights a fire underneath me. These interactions are why I do the science I do. To see the awe and wonder on people's faces.

I had hope that this program (which is only 2 years old) had somehow skated through, but alas. Anybody have ideas for what this means for my proposal which was submitted in December and I think possibly reviewed already? #nsf #stemed #postdoc
