Maybe also not a coincidence that one of the more persistent little themes on the fascist right is the idea that the Left has engineered or embodies a “suicide of the West.” Western civilization is so degenerate that only self-destruction awaits.

As insane as Candace Owen’s is, I really kind of feel for her. Having her friend die in such a gruesome and public way broke her heart and her brain.

I think this is right as far as it goes. Most ppl are not as deranged, online, or as openly bigoted as the worst of the Right. But there is a mistake in assuming that minority status is a constraint. At a certain point they stop caring whether they’re representative and their dissonance will resolve

The NRA's 2nd Amendment protests were never about principles. They were rationalizations for why the right should be able to hoard weapons to kill the left—paired with an unspoken understanding among themselves that the left must never be allowed to arm itself in response.
Folks have been noting the creepiness of this NRA statement on the Minneapolis murder that DOESN'T affirm Alex Pretti's right to have a gun at a protest, instead blaming "radical progressive politicians lie Tim Walz" who have "incited violence against law enforcement officers" for his death....

Law enforcement is trained to yell "gun! gun!" when they discover a suspect is armed during a confrontation or arrest so that they can coordinate to create distance and angles, secure the suspect’s hands, etc.
It is not supposed to be an order to empty the clip. But they use it like it is.

We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.
