加拿大BC声本拿比市长麦克·赫利代表市政府,正式就历史上对华人群体的歧视行为致歉。

赫利在周六召集市议会召开正式会议,会议中,议员们一致通过动议,废除三项歧视性市政条例。

市府表示,这些条例是在调查本拿比历史上的歧视行为过程中由工作人员发现的,尽管这些条例早已不再有效,也未被执行。

赫利表示,市政府愿意承担责任,承认1892年至1947年间,本拿比市政当局和民选官员推行了种族主义和排斥性的政策。他指出,这其中包括一项1982年通过的法律,禁止市政府及其承包商雇佣华人和日本工人。
