Wendell Berry is one of the authors who has influenced my own writing the most - but there is a cost to reading him. And a significant one at that.

The Cost Of Reading Wendell Berry
"Is it good?" is the question Wendell Berry constantly asks us. It's a question which demands a response.

much love for the 'don't know' crew who must be wondering what that tree is doing in their living room
It's 25 November, and 11% of Britons say they have put up their Christmas decorations already - including 23% of 18-24 year olds

Tim Suffield with an excellent reflection on what the work of a pastor really is, via 𝐴𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑊𝑖𝑠𝑑𝑜𝑚 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑆𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑠 .

It strikes me that in the C of E it's the theology bit where we most come unstuck.

What a difference twelve months makes!
... Twelve months, plus enormous grant, loads of donations (thank you), and a ferocious amount of work.

The scaffold came down at St Lawrence’s, Gumfreston, Pembrokeshire recently, and we could hardly believe our eyes.

"Part of what we do here every week is to reject the modern conceit that true freedom is freedom from having to bother too much with other people."

What a line. And the sermon only gets better from there!
There have been times recently when it feels like the anchors of our society and culture have come loose, and we are hopelessly adrift...

We probably aren't living near the end of the world; but we might well be living through the end of an era.

Wow. Way too close for comfort.

If a bot could proven to be evangelistically effective, how many evangelicals would be unsure whether that was a bad idea?

Somewhere a teacher is trying to convey the wonder of the forms to her Plato class and she says "Lewis! Lewis! It's all in Lewis! Haven't you read the end of The Last Battle?! What do they teach them in these schools these days?"

So much fun. Might need one of those signs for my garden. So much sadness too.
"He professed not to like people, but could scarcely bear to be alone.”

Read this to the end. Anybody out there willing to write a play about this man?
you have to be really quite determined to get the Church Times - for which he used to write very funny TV reviews - to write an obituary like this. www.churchtimes.co.uk/articles/202...

1. It doesn't throttle external links, so can serve as a guide to the best material and conversations happening elsewhere. A micro-blogging website will never be ideal for conversation, but can be great place to connect with thoughtful conversations.
