Even if we know that jobs tend to go to those who look the part (vs who’ll be best at the job) we tend to think we / our organisation are more rational in our hiring & promotion decisions (just like 80% of drivers think they’re an above-average driver).
Data from the Bridge Group and Progress Together showed that socio-economic background remains the single strongest predictor of who reaches senior leadership in UK financial services.

Senior leadership continues to be dominated by privileged backgrounds. #PerformanceNotPrivilege

This is smart from Polanski in broadening the greens appeal. Often language around ‘green choices’ is received as choices for those who can afford to do so and just another financial/time burden at a time of already high burdens for everyone else looks tin eared. www.thetimes.com/article/a7ac...

Why progressive organisations fail to understand what will engage or alienate ordinary people (even having listened to them).
Progressive organisations often struggle to win the support of people outside of what Nigel Farage calls the ‘metropolitan liberal elite’. I spend a lot of time considering why that is.

Privately-educated students are more than 6x more likely to get into @trinityhallcamb.bsky.social than are their state-schooled peers, but the college claims the former are the ones being discriminated against. Sheer classism.

Notice he says *relative* surplus of graduates: Lack of a strategy to create high-quality jobs is the other side of the coin

When candidates hugely outnumber jobs, privileged families deploy all their financial, social & cultural resources to hoard opportunities from the rest of us
