#MapOnATuesday is this survey of licensed houses in Birmingham, 1891 showing locations of licensed victuallers, beer houses and off licenses. Copied from the map of licensed houses prepared by the City Surveyor. Ref - MAP/149421 #LibraryofBham
The map is a series of parallel lines running across one another identifying streets and roads. The bulk of this activity is in the centre of the map whilst the periphery is less detailed and chiefly consists of the outlines of fields. A series of dots are dispersed liberally across the map. Beneath the map is the title - Map of Licensed Houses, Birmingham accompanied by a key indicating what the different colour dots represent - left to right : Licensed Victuallers, Beer houses and Off Licences.

I had the pleasure of playing in Rose's band a few times circa 2014. I'm not sure but I think the hammered dulcimer may have brought a bit of an air of menace to this song in particular.

Did you know that Ouse Bridge in York had the earliest recorded public toilets in Yorkshire? Opened in 1367!
We are looking at an oil painting of a view of a Tudor bridge with a pointed stone arch. On either side of the bride are buildings which have been built on top of the bridge's other arches. A lazy blue river runs underneath whilst groups of people walk along an uneven river bank. Four figures are stood in a boat whilst a large ship with a mast and its sail folded up can be seen on one side.

At the New Hampshire Telephone Museum in Warner, NH. Their slogan is “live free and dial”
A display of more than a dozen early telephones, most of the wooden coffin style with separate ear and mouthpieces, and external bells. A display of six telephone headsets from the mid-20th century under the heading “Around the World”. All six feature a separate base and handset, and are made out of black Bakelite. An early coin operated pay phone from the late 1800s. It has a separate ear and mouthpiece, and slots for coins in the wooden base A large telephone switch, reaching almost to the ceiling. The sign reads “please remove foul weather gear before entering the switch room.”
