I'm seeing more screaming about the Bible, so here's a few basic facts:

The Bible has been immensely influential on history, science, and culture and therefore it cannot be ignored in discussions of each.

But what it actually says is very different from how it is often portrayed:

THANK YOU both for voting NO on the CR.

We need leaders in Congress who will stand up to Trump. We don't need quislings.

You are heroes. ❤️

If you don't believe that tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy trickle down to the average citizen then you can't compromise with those who believe that is the ONLY way to enrich everyone else.

If you believe that American citizens are hard workers who deserve a living wage then you can't compromise

Please don't accept the GOP proposal!!

They view this shutdown as their best chance to kill both SNAP and the ACA.

To accept their deal is to acknowledge guilt for the shutdown. And it tells Trump that Dems will cave whenever he threatens them.

Bad move!

A GOP promise to maybe talk about maybe preserving maybe some fraction of the ACA in maybe December sometime maybe is simply naive.

The GOP doesn't live by its promises. Even if they're in writing.

Bad idea.

It's time for the GOP to stop playing games and to start playing by the rules.

No more redistricting power grabs

No more 2020 election denying

No more DOGE

No more handing the powers of Congress to Trump

No more using food as a weapon

No more military troops in cities

No more stupid tariffs

I made a contribution to our local food bank today. I'm planning to make a similar contribution every month that the Trumpies continue to withhold SNAP benefits.

I decided that people having food is so important that I should do whatever I can to help.

I would urge you to consider doing the same.

California should sue the Trump administration over the FEMA funds it should have been paid. Trump would of course appeal, and it would go straight to SCOTUS. And SCOTUS will say it's fine for the prez to punish the states he hates.

At least we would get them on record.

The legal case for Trump's 3rd term:

American cities with Democratic mayors are hellholes of CRIME CRIME CRIME.

That's why Trump is preparing Rapid Response Teams (RFTs).

When protesters prevent RFTs from doing their jobs Trump will have to employ more stern measures.

And if the protests

The AI frenzy will soon crash. It's very similar to the Dot Com frenzy. People who know nothing about AI are nonetheless ecstatic about the massive transformations they think it will bring.

What transformations?

*Massive power requirements, crowding out other customers (like families)

When Trump says that we can never let what happened in the 2020 election happen again, he means that the Democrats rigged the election to give Joe Biden the win and that therefore Democrats are immoral and must never hold office again.

It's a blatant statement that he wants one party rule.

THANK YOU Senator Merkley for telling the truth: the U.S. is now undrr authoritarian rule. And the Republican Party is cheering it along.

There's a point of no return. When, exactly?

Is it when the Trumpies round up U.S. citizens to send them to detention?

Is it when the law and the Constitution no longer have any predictability?

Is it when the Prez declares war on just SOME of his fellow citizens?

Is it when the Prez

Trump has fired about 100 immigration judges. That will increase the time required for immigration cases to be decided.

But that's what the Trumpies want. They're spending billions on new detention centers. The plan is to enrich the rich who own the detention centers. They don't want to solve

Thune said that Senate Republicans have no control over what Russ Vought of OMB might do during the shutdown.

That's a public confession that Congress is irrelevant.

So this must be the WH org chart:

Stephen Miller = God
Russ Vought = Shadow God
DJT = Puppet

Congress = footrest

The Trumpies say everything is an emergency:

Invasion by Venezuelans
Massive trade deficits
Loss of manufacturing jobs
Crime outta control
Massive federal debt
Democratc terrorism

None of it is true. The Trumpies are living in a total fantasy world.

Democrats need a new mascot. I'm thinking a velociraptor would be good.

Conservative: Sit still and don't make a fuss while I remove your eyes and your tongue.

Liberal: WHAT??

C: If you protest you're just going to make it harder on yourself.

L: You're INSANE! I'm not going to sit quietly while you..

C: Careful! If you protest I'll have you arrested for terrorism.

Okay I'm rethinking my position on a shutdown. Previously I had argued that it would be self-defeating for the Democrats to vote against the next CR. It's a major messaging battle, and the Trumpies are holding most of the cards. Besides, there's no guarantee that the Republicans would make good

The Trumpies are threatening massive firings of federal employees if the Democrats vote to shut down the government.

Don't fall for it. They're going to fire massive numbers of federal employees anyway. It's just another way of trying to shift the blame for what they are doing to Democrats.

Many (most?) conservatives seem to be driven by a fear that the tenets of their faith are under assault. And the most obvious manifestation of this fear is the recitation of simplistic talking points:

The Bible is the word of God
Yahweh is merciful and just
Jesus is the Messiah
Etc.

Several prominent political figures-- Gov. Newsom for one-- are saying publicly that the Republicans are out to rig the 2026 election to ensure that they win.

Q: if that does indeed happen, what should be the public's response?

Timorous acceptance won't cut it. It'll have to be full on resistance.

Artifa = Anti-Fascist.

And I am proud to announce that I am anti-fascist.

Project 2025 is a fascist coup, and I oppose its goals and methods.

If Antifa were an organization, rather than an ideology, I would contribute money to it.

And I will continue to resist everything Trump represents.
