AB2098 complements existing law by explicitly mandating the Medical Board of California and California Department of Justice to protect patients from misinformation and disinformation. Responsible and ethical California healthcare providers support this law which benefits citizens and communities.
In this opinion, I argue that the upcoming 9th Circuit hearing on 7/17/23 over the anti-COVID disinformation bill I championed misconstrues the bill's intent. The law targets unambiguous and verifiable false information shared by doctors with patients, not genuine scientific discourse.
