“By invoking Guantanamo, he reinforces this racist stance [on immigrants], using the shock value of a site infamous for human rights abuses to frame migrants as a dire threat to national security.” — 🎯 as usual by @drmahahilal.bsky.social

Trump's Guantanamo plan invokes 'war on terror' to justify inhumane immigration policies
The US president's executive order weaponises the post-9/11 'terrorism' framework to detain migrants at the notorious prison camp, long used to hold those cast as existential threats

I'm really looking forward to @muslimcounterpublicslab's first Counterpublic Cafe of the year, this coming Saturday, February 15th at 6:30 PM at Friends Meeting Place Capitol Hill. Commemorating Black history month, we will be screening the documentary "The First Rainbow Coalition."

It's no surprise that Trump wants to send 30K migrants to Guantanamo Bay b/c the base has always been a place for those rendered disposable & inconsequential. The Laken Riley Act echoes collective responsibility in the way the prison has been used to detain Muslim men and boys in the War on Terror.

Only the United States, whose whole existence is rooted in death dealing, would have a march for life.

"As a frequently weaponised threat, Guantanamo has consistently been used by the state as a way of disciplining Muslim bodies by cultivating fear and trauma for any Muslims who resist or defy it.That's why it is past time to close and abolish the prison."

After 23 years, Guantanamo remains an omnipresent threat to Muslims
Emblematic of institutionalised Islamophobia, the detention centre has placed Muslims outside of the law and continues to be used by US authorities to threaten their lives and rights

We are thrilled by the news that 11 Yemeni Guantanamo prisoners have been transferred to Oman, where they can hopefully start to build a new life. With that said, we know from working with survivors, however, that life after Guantanamo is full of trauma and struggles.

Hi 🦋! It’s good to be here, belatedly. I’m a psychologist & writer. My recent book “DOING HARM” examines the American Psychological Association's failure to adequately oppose the abuse & torture of US “war on terror” prisoners. Will APA respond differently in the future? That's an open question.

The Biden-Harris administration recently released their Countering Islamophobia & Anti-Arab Hatred Guide. Adding to the litany of existing critiques, I wrote an op-ed about the overarching framework of the guide & its problematic narratives & other conceptual issues. bit.ly/BidenIslamophobiaGuide

Every year on December 10th, states across the globe commemorate International Human Rights Day. Even though human rights are meant to be applied universally, we know that there are many communities across the globe who have had their rights consistently & systematically denied.
