The analyses are done transparently, the methods and results are reported faithfully.

And reviewer 2 hates it.

Somehow, despite suggesting different people each time, we've actually ended up with the same (self-identifed) R2 at two journals.

Sure. Some students volunteered their own shower hoses; we then cut them in subsections, extracted the biofilms through scraping, quantified the biomass with crystal violet staining and observed biofilm heterogeneity along the length of the entire hose.
