Changes resulting from this suit would be a major strike against one of the most frustrating parts of how you and I buy alcohol. Or maybe nothing will change 🤷🏻‍♂️
The FTC on Thursday sued Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, accusing the largest alcohol distributor in the U.S. of unjustifiably charging higher prices to small businesses and limiting their ability to compete with big chains.

The suit, under a long-dormant antitrust law, accuses Southern Glazer’s of charging small businesses “drastically” more than big chains.

My take on the Svedka sale: Constellation sheds a mid-low shelf brand they can't give enough attention to. Svedka is a good pick up for Saz' — one more option for the sales guys to push to bars that want Van Winkle & BT releases. I still prefer Wheatley, though.

I was raising an eyebrow last week at the Stoli Group bankruptcy announcement (it's not exactly a weak portfolio or a massive over-spender), but the story is a little clearer with the context that they've been dealing with months of cyberattack management.

If you're keeping an eye on the health of the whiskey industry, here's a potentially significant canary. Irish distillery Waterford is in receivership. A decade ago, everyone would have agreed unequivocally that there were not enough Irish distillers. www.thespiritsbusiness.com/2024/11/wate...
