Calling transphobia a 'gateway drug' to the far right undersells it. It's pure accelerant. Grimly fascinating to guess what crankery becomes any famous transphobe's secondary obsession, cos they all have one: 15 minute cities are fascism! Grok noncing is cool! ICE are good! We should kill all dogs!

It is lovely to be back in Taiwan and settling into gorgeous Pingtung.

The abortion increase in England is related to decades of cuts to contraception and sexual healthcare, and the impact of rising living costs. But it also indicates that more women are able to access medication abortion at home and that's a good thing. There's no right or wrong number of abortions.
What record abortion numbers reveal about the cost of being a woman in Britain
The majority of people seeking abortions already have children

The US government is now freely killing people at sea, in other lands, and on its own streets.

It is difficult to see what more is needed for Congress and the Supreme Court to exercise their constitutional duty to check and balance what is now a rogue state abroad and a gangster state at home.

This is simply a lie.

Labour knew precisely the scale of the crisis in the criminal courts.

Everybody did.

The backlog was a matter of public record.

But Labour’s manifesto did not contain a *single* idea to address the problems.

And then their cuts to sitting days made the backlog even worse.
"If you knew what the backlog was, why didn't you put this in your manifesto?"
"We didn't know the scale of the challenge."
"Yes you did!"

Labour's Helena Dollimore defends the government's plan to cut back on jury trials.

In the mistaken hope of a less stressful journey, earlier this week I travelled on a 'first class' ticket with Grand Central trains (York to London).

Truly the most dishonest 'first class' experience I've ever had.

A meditation on death, loss and legacy, Martina Mustafova's The Bulgarian for ‘I Love You’ is an exquisitely nuanced essay bringing together the death of her father and the birth of her first daughter.
