Despite COVID which sidelined my household the week of Thanksgiving and actual brain surgery, I have successfully completed my Christmas shopping.

Large corporations who buy healthcare agencies like home health and hospice organizations don’t seem to understand that referral patterns are about relationships. Who do I trust is going to give my patients the best care? Who is going to be available when there is a problem to help me get it fixed?

In Georgia, the state has made "catastrophic" cuts at DHS, citing an $85 million deficit.

A provider described one result: a mom who relapsed last week. "Visits with her child were keeping her sober, but transportation services had been cut."

Georgia is sitting on a $14.6 *billion* budget surplus.
Department of Human Services cuts services to families to deal with deficit
As Georgia's Department of Human Services struggles with a massive deficit, Commissioner Candice Broce pleaded with state lawmakers for more funding.

I woke in the middle of the night last night on a couple of occasions to ads recruiting for ICE and honestly, that can’t be good for anyone’s health. It just made me mad.

VP shunt chic and busting out of the hospital.

(Excuse the bonnet. It’s just the practical choice. No appropriation intended, but this is the kind of hat I could find that would cover my incisions without putting pressure on the new devices in my head.)

Yall. My hospitals breakfast this morning… was incredible. Shout out to Baptist Memphis’s kitchen. That French toast bread pudding was incredible.

It takes a mom to look forward to brain surgery because it’s the only way you’ll get a moment’s peace. 😂🫠

My child woke up at 9 am, wandered into the living room and asked me how old he was. I’ve never slept so deeply that I forgot my age but I’d like to give it a try.

It’s so weird to be at a meeting with non-doctors who aren’t on their laptops during lectures…

So I need to note this. While my day was nuts and I’m tired and cranky, my phlebotomy students were awesome today. My office is on the Christmas parade route so friends and family always gather there to watch.

Running a small practice is not for the faint of heart. My MA is out this morning. She can’t help it. My part time employee is sick. So in the last two hours, I’ve seen three patients for visits, had three more for blood draws. Had come in for a urine specimen.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Unless it’s white chocolate peppermint bark, I have no need for peppermint in anything I eat. Not a cookie. Not coffee. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Snuggling my kid and rubbing his back as he’s drifting off to sleep.
Me: I love you more than all the stars in all the skies, sweet boy.
Him: Get your hand off me.

Ah parenthood.

Current ACIP Member Evelyn Griffin, MD blaming illegal immigration for patients having hepatitis B. This is racist.

The ACIP does not have any standing to affect domestic immigration policy or procedures.

How about we worry less, as a society, about whether individuals might be cheating to get a disability accommodation or some help buying food, and more about whether extremely wealthy people and corporations are paying their fair share of taxes?

So in what year is Stranger Things season 5 supposed to take place? I’m completely thrown off by the “American Tail: Fievel Goes West” poster in Holly Wheeler’s room. That definitely wasn’t released until the 90s.
