This particular aspect of AI errors - not just hallucinating and giving inaccurate info, but giving inaccurate info that validates users - is something we should all be VERY worried about as police and prosecutors begin to use AI to automate parts of their investigations
ChatGPT's sycophancy problem by the numbers: The Post found it began responses with variations on “yes” 10 times as often as it did with versions of “no.”

Really interesting analysis here by @gerritd.bsky.social & @jeremybmerrill.com
The Post analyzed 47,000 public ChatGPT conversations.
While 35% use it for info and 11% for coding, the most striking finding? The emotional intimacy.
ChatGPT: "You're not crazy sweetheart — you're just early."

There are a lot of reasons to be worried about the trend toward age verification requirements, but the (perhaps inevitable) threat to VPNs is one that's very much worth watching. www.cnet.com/tech/service...

The Supreme Court was never going to take this case. If you were worried about marriage before, you should be just as worried now. (I'm not saying you SHOULD be worried, just that this case doesn't say anything.) (You probably shouldn't be worried. I am worried.)

I think the better way to say this is that DHS is destroying records by default.
DHS confirmed it has stopped automatically storing officials' text messages.

Instead, officials are supposed to take a screenshot, send that to their work email, download it onto their work computer and run a text-recognition program on it. Every time.

I continue to pray for the Robert Caro-style biography of Pelosi that she deserves. She made a lot of very difficult things look easy, and I think a detailed, fine-grained narrative of how that actually happened would be fascinating.

I would be very interested in reading literally any analysis of yesterday's elections that doesn't involve the author doubling down on their priors.

It's not that what you thought on Monday is wrong. It's just not that interesting.

Bomb threats at polling places in New Jersey today follow a troubling pattern. Election officials are now seeing coordinated threats not just in federal election years, but in off-year local elections too. This is becoming a consistent tactic to disrupt voting and intimidate election workers.

Airline #Privacy is a serious problem, as airlines essentially have no privacy requirements (Dept of Transportation started investigating airline privacy practices last year but the agency has since dropped it).

You should opt out of this practice ASAP.
