Excellent piece by Gordon Brown - reminding us about the 4.5m children languishing in poverty in UK. It's getting worse by the day. It's NOT about workshy parents: 7/10 poor children live in households with one working parent. Child poverty is not inevitable. The Government CAN do something about it
"Seventy-five per cent of people, according to a new poll commissioned by me and the New Statesman, believe child poverty to be 'morally wrong'."

Gordon Brown: Child poverty is a scar on our national conscience
Child poverty is a scar on our national conscience
A Labour government has taken millions of children out of poverty before. It can do so again.

Unexpected - EU companies increasingly aligned with climate action

“Those vocally organising to oppose the energy transition achieve outsized importance across public debate. However, there is a larger, quieter majority that are supportive of decarbonisation”

European firms ramping up lobbying for climate action, report finds
Research shows companies ‘aligned’ with strategies to meet climate goals have risen from 3% in 2019 to 23% in 2025

Did you know that electricity is often taxed more than fossil fuels in the EU?

It’s a policy choice that makes electrification less competitive.

Our @regassistproj.bsky.social report explores how taxes and levies shape this imbalance and what can be done.

A good eg here of changes made during the pandemic taking the slow steps from formal trial to permanent reallocation of street space away from cars and towards people. Great to see. Trials/pilots are a crucial part of demonstrating what reprioritised streets look/feel like & building public support
Edinburgh traffic bans in city centre to be made permanent following trial
Traffic bans on several city centre streets are to be made permanent after being trialled over the past year and a half.

The full report is well worth a skim through.

Includes this incredible mode share chart showing “people walking, wheeling and cycling make up three quarters of all observed travel activity and 85% during peak hours.” Love it.
