Confession of the day: The only Wuthering Heights adaption I ever watched was the 2009 ITV production. And I liked it. Could not even imagine that there are WH adaptions that drop the whole "Heathcliff marries Linton's sister and forces Chathy's daughter into a marriage with this son" plot

People bring up the history of AO3 again on bird app as a reponse to another "AO3 should ban incest fics" and tell about how ffnet used to ban/delete Wincest fics. But I never really used ffnet, let alone shipped incest fics back in the time. So I'm curious: What exactly meant that? [1/2]

I think the Wincester Boys liked Scooby-Doo as kids for the same reason why I didn't: What looked like supernatural always turned out mundane at the end. For them it was escapism in a better world in which the horrors didn't exist. A world they dreamed of.

Fanfic is trickle down of society. If you want to end IRL incest, oppose social media bans for minors, as they only serve to isolate victims. Push for k-12 sex ed. Oppose legislation suggesting children are property. Fictional characters don't need defense. Real children, however, could use allies.
People insisting AO3 should ban incest fics naming Wincest in particular won't ever be not funny for me.
