It's time for your regular reminder that flamboyant cuttlefish eggs (Ascarosepion pfefferi) look like toy capsules.

Inside several of them you can see the baby cuttlefish inside, developing. They are mostly white. There is also a translucent blob in the egg that appears to be attached to the fetuses. They are translucent spheres where you can easily see the baby cuttlefish inside. They resemble toy capsules. The cuttlefish have their iconic purple, magenta, yellow and white colouring. Six cuttlefish eggs are visible, with three being clearly visible and two half visible. One of the clearly visible eggs has a messed up exterior, so its hard to see inside. It has some sort of hairy tendrils sticking out, but its unclear if that's part of the egg or some other organism. It is pointing to the left, and we are seeing its bottom side. There are some other eggs in the background. The eggs and cuttlefish are being illuminated by a light, but it is otherwise dark around.

Flapjack octopuses (genus Opisthoteuthis) of little cutie patooties. Like other cirrate octopuses, they have fins on their mantle. These fins give them the appearance of having cute little ears.

They get their common name from the fact they like to squish themselves into a flat pose.

It is a gelatinous and squishy looking. It is dark orange with some lavender coloured dots on its face, that in at least four columns. It has two fins on the top of its mantle (although one is tucked down) that look like itty bitty ears. You can only barely bake out some of its arms because of how gelatinous it is. Its eye is partly closed, so it looks sleepy which adds to the cute factor. A flapjack octopus (Opisthoteuthis sp.) swimming in the ocean. It has adopted a cone shape, with a concave opening where you can see the underside of its arms. Around the edges the arms are twisted. It has black eyes and mango coloured. You can see one of its two fins flapping, which look like cute tiny ears. A flapjack octopus (Opisthoteuthis cf. californiana) sitting on the sea floor. It has adopted the "flapjack" pose that flapjack octopuses are known for. It has squished itself as flat as possible with its fins tucked down in adorable heap of octopus. It has a honey colour.

They aren't my idea of "dark and brooding"...

Graneledone boreopacifica have been observed brooding their eggs for 53 months. That's longer than any other animal and might make them longest living octopus species. What is even more impressive is that they don't eat during that time.

The octopus is a light magenta. It looks rather puffy, with some bumps on its mantle. Its arms are mostly hidden behind the rock. In the peripherals are some lanky crabs.

The Seven-armed octopus (Haliphron atlanticus) is a large octopus species, that as its name suggests, has eight arms!

The reason it gets its name is that males have their hectocotylus (a specialized arm used for mating) curled up in a pouch, making it look like they only have seven arms

The largest octopus species is the Giant Pacific Octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini). They commonly weigh between 2-10 kg but the heaviest GPO recorded had a weight of 272 kg and an arm span of 9.6 m.

They are also one of the longest living octopus species, being able to live up to 5 years.

The colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) is the largest living invertebrate species. We've found a specimen weighing 495 kg, but they might be able to get even bigger.

Bathyteuthis is one of two genera in the order Bathyteuthida. Bathyteuthis squids are also some of the few squid species that brood their eggs, carrying them as they float through the sea

They also look super goofy with those eyes. What's going on in that donut shaped brain of theirs?

Asperoteuthis mangoldae has a fancy tail that is longer than the rest of the squid, and when it is unfurled it resembles a sea pen.

Little is known about this species. They were formally described in 2007 and filmed for the first time in 2019.
