Last week, I went to go visit @karlantmercer.bsky.social 's "At the End of History," at @dovermuseum.bsky.social and had a fantastic day out. The VR portion of the exhibit is like nothing I've ever experienced before. Highly urge everyone to see this exhibit before it closes. #DisHist

As we spend this time of year reflecting on the nature of death and remembering the dead, Dover Museum looks to their collections that relate to this theme. Pictured are drawings of gravestones from around #Dover District and #Thanet by John Lewis Roget (1828–1908).

This exhibition at #dovermuseum was absolutely amazing.
As a #dyslexic #neurodiverse person it was an absolute joy to see an interactive exhibition dedicated to #disability & #neurodiversity . It was inclusive both in topic and experience and really #dyslexic friendly!
It's World Audiovisual Heritage day! For Dover Museum’s newest exhibition, Curating Visibility Fellow Karl Mercer and a team of deaf, disabled and neurodivergent co-producers explored the Museum’s collections to create an immersive experience using VR.

After a successful private launch of my exhibition I was reminded of that time I delivered a poem that is definitely not under 60 seconds long in under 60 seconds.

At the End of History at @dovermuseum.bsky.social opens to the public on 20th October.
Today, December 3rd, Karl Mercer our Curating Visibility Fellow recites his poem 'Always Been' to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Love a hovercraft. Meet Dougal, on display in our museum because he was the mascot of 200 Hovercraft Squadron, Royal Corps of Transport. They adopted him because he glides along the ground, much like a hovercraft 😍

#OnThisDay, October 1st 2000, the last hovercraft arrived in Dover having made its final cross Channel journey. A hovercraft first landed in #Dover on 25th July 1959 after crossing the Channel in two hours.

It’s #WorldBeardDay and what better place than a museum to showcase beards or tools that helped keep them, such as the Vikings and their reputations for great hair care and tresses. In #Dover Museum is a bone comb previously identified as Anglo-Saxon, now recognised as a 10th century #Viking comb.

#OnThisDay in 1875 Captain Webb was paraded through the Highstreet of his birth town in Dawley to celebrate his historic Channel swim. This later inspired a postcard with the legend that a “pig was put on the wall to see Captain Webb’s procession pass”, by the landlord of the Crown public house.

#OnThisDay, in 1875, Captain Matthew Webb started his Channel swim diving from the Admiralty Pier in #Dover just before 1pm. 21 hours and 45 minutes later he arrived in France. He was the first person recorded to successfully complete a solo swim of the English Channel.
