Retired.
I'm gonna go take a shower and when I get out of it the account goes back to getting nuked.

On my private twitter I've been singing her praises probably to an annoying degree, so I'm spreading wings to be annoying elsewhere. I'm blown away by the level of design quality managed for a debut work. Personal favorite CD discover! of the past year or so, a name to keep an eye out for!

Though my feelings on the adaptation of Sentai Daisikkaku are starting to lean negative; one thing I can appreciate above all else are Kahoko Koseki's (古関果歩子) designs and subsequent CAD effort. A name sadly unlikely to garner mainstream attention, yet is an unyielding positive for a rough series.

I reactive my bluesky acc once a month roughly to catch up on art and tweets. I also vaguely miss tweeting to people in general… a feeling that comes and goes. I’ll remember the bad and be sick of it in a few days time. Even retired animation is my hobby, and I think I miss the discussion aspect.

All this to say that my ultimate take is that shounen never should've left the long running model and the industry has been downhill ever since. A take that perhaps will only resonate with those who used to watch the diverse series that these people made before the mega-shounen took over lol

Everyone has the right to want a great adaptation for a favorite manga, but the discourse leans ridiculous when literally every other shounen gets good staff even if it kills the production line, and then leans funny when you consider this super-shounen seasonal phenomenon isn't even a decade old...
January 6, 2025 at 7:26 PM
The most frustrating topic of this discussion is the shounen fan implication that series that don't feature action are inherently less worthy of getting good staff and don't need animation to convey their storytelling. Complete bollocks, but it's the average consumer you have to deal with nowadays.

Moreso than being offended that Sakamoto doesn't have every freelancer known to man, I'd opt to be more constructive. You can make a good show with limited resources, but you can't save uninteresting direction. Disregarding it's staff listing the show itself just looks drab in presentation.

Making a super-production like JJK-CSM will move a lot more than a super-production did a decade ago, but overall these type of series and the standards they create end up having the middle line of what your average anime can work with a lot less. That in mind I wonder what people even want atp.

Sakamoto Days being pedestrian is fine and we need 10 more of its type. Quite literally every other shounen-adjacent title nowadays gets the best freelancers while creative works of separate genres and demographics struggle. Shounen fans operate on the greed talked about in the bible.

the account stays so I can continue to be a periodic hater I said I was going to deactivate before the csm pv showed me the way (christmas miracle)
December 25, 2024 at 2:41 PM
Of course I'm not gonna be normal about this discourse when I got harassed over it by weirdos for a copious amount of time but I can't help but be a bit smug post new-PV. It's just my poor personality at work lol.

A week ago if you said you didn't like CSM S1's approach you'd get swarmed by people saying you're an idiot who doesn't understand cinema, but now that home team is playing defense it's suddenly about accepting personal preference. But it wasn't like that when you didn't like S1! It's ironic.
December 23, 2024 at 8:28 PM
Having to talk with people who treated you like a different species for wanting a CSM that actually has vibrancy and action that takes you aback with its chaos was truly hell but the PV speaks for itself so maybe these unimaginative individuals can parse the vision with this PV in front of them now.

What is this heckin bright color design propaganda in my cinematic Chainsaw Man doing. My dark and gritty Chainsaw Man??? My super downer Chainsaw man??? The color is popping, the world doesn't look like grim shit because bad stuff happens??? My heckin cinematic Chainsaw Man is GONE????? God bless.

I don't understand why they started Jiji's arc and then ended it in such a piss poor spot. They had the vol. 5 bonus chapter looking them straight in the eyes if they needed a chapter to conclusively end on... it's a shame. Dandadan cour 1 got knocked down quite a few pegs for me across its run!
December 19, 2024 at 8:25 PM
My take of the evening is that I somehow enjoyed Kaiju No. 8 more than Dandadan now that they've both concluded. TV anime this year was so incredibly dull outside of the Meshi/Frieren/Apothecary trinity earlier this year that a manga I cared little for reached the upper echelon lol. Weak year.

Rather lame naming convention I came up with on the spot there, no? I suppose we can just ignore I said that.

Thank you for attending the biweekly Kam-talk!

Apropos to Saru, it's always a good thing to remember that being completed before air does not inherently equate to fantastic circumstance. Though DDD still falls far above the average, it's not like this couldn't have been seen coming from eyes more privy on their history. A shame to put it simply.
December 19, 2024 at 2:35 AM
Albeit even when the show is actively melting on screen with its animation and lax AD work, the approach still remains rather fun with how it processes the mangas visuals (for the most part). It's simply not to its full potential in regards to its polish, something I hope the BD attempts to rectify.

Dandadan ends tomorrow. Adaptation started strong but fizzled for me by what would be last weeks episode. Mostly the inconsistency in AD when Naoyuki Onda isn't involved has done in every episode that isn't a highlight. Some genuine struggle too. A good vision but a sully look at Sarus shortcomings.
Wish Dandadan was a more even production outside of the big episodes, but they always deliver when the time comes. Even without air-tight supervision and somewhat distracting color choices the sheer expression allowed in each episode is more than enough to make up for it. Dandadan is a great show.
