Speaking as a member of @gmb.org.uk I have to say that I’ve been appalled by Antonia Bance’s recent positions on housing and asylum seekers. I’m astonished that @tuc.org.uk had her in such a senior role for so long. Wrongheaded, intransigent and belligerent. Maybe she would be happier in Reform?

As someone who worked in fashion and studied in Oxford, I am unashambed to state that, with my brain in neutral, I am enjoying My Oxford Year just as much as I enjoyed Emily in Paris. Boo to intellectual snobbery. Yay to silly fun, amazing outfits and charming romcom. A little light amid the drak

You’ve alluded to this before but the full story is brilliant
One other 7/7 thread today. Because I think how the bus network got running again is a real testament to some serious heroes that day:

And TfL/the Mayor disobeyed the Security Services to make it happen /1

Good grief. I am old enough to remember the political right in the UK losing its collective mind when the hugely talented Richard Bowker was put in charge of the UK’s railways at the tender age of 36. How times change

40 years ago, French President Mitterrand and German Chancellor Kohl stood hand in hand in Verdun.

The echoes of a fractured past stood silently before them.
The legacy of that day lives on, before us.

Alongside "who built Hadrian's wall?", another great example of knowledge falling foul of 'common understanding' is scurvy.

The Royal Navy discovered the cure for scurvy, won the Napoleonic War, humanity then lost that knowledge without realising, then got saved by two Norwegian guinea pigs 🧵 /1
