I would be very unsurprised if the coming Labour leadership contest didn’t have a ‘stand up to Trump’ dimension. The corollary is a different position regarding EU/Europe.

This is fascinating and should be blindingly obvious to any person who has watched the BBC over the last 15 years.
The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

Labour would have purged and smeared someone like Zohran Mamdani.
Wes Streeting's politics align far more closely with Andrew Cuomo.
The lessons from Mamdani are about how to defeat both the right - and the bankrupt "centre".

I hope the BBC will challenge Nigel Farage today over the economic damage caused by the Brexit he championed.
He needs to be held to account for the damage he's done instead of always being given an easy ride.

Raising income tax but keeping the cap (whichever way they try and triangulate) is nothing if not consistent. This way they can continue to be as unpopular with as many groups as possible.

If Greens start consistently leading Labour in polls, and beating them in local elections then the logic of tactical voting which Labour has been relying on could flip savagely on them. As Caerphilly by-election shows, "Only Labour can beat Reform" doesn't work if voters know it isn't true.
Our latest Westminster voting intention (26-27 Oct) has Labour on their lowest figure ever recorded by YouGov, with the Greens on their highest
Reform UK: 27% (+1 from 19-20 Oct)
Labour: 17% (-3)
Conservatives: 17% (=)
Greens: 16% (+1)
Lib Dems: 15% (=)

I've now seen it enough for me to feel it's a trend. Some people seem to be hallucinating specific polling misses, with it usually to minimise Labour's losses in polls or Reform's gains.
FWIW, Hamilton was pretty much in line with what would be expected based on Scotland-wide polling at the time.

“Tactical voting“ chat is like the progressive alliance chat: it dances around the central problem of “the Labour party needs to appeal to more people”.
My only concern is that could you have the same momentum/communication if it became clear that reform were winning in 300 seats as you have had in Caerphilly?
Getting the tactical vote out would be a lot harder across that many seats, and you'd need a viable alternative as well

Exclusive: No10 chief of staff Morgan McSweeney addressed a meeting of Labour peers on Wednesday night. It did not go well, for him or Keir Starmer.

“The Tories want to retrospectively change the rules to deport people who have been in this country and contributed to our society for decades. They would separate British children from their parents and expel doctors and nurses who have been serving patients in the NHS for years."
