Sadly the hardest part about investigating discomfort is just about everything. More specifically, specialty visits and diagnostics don’t always prove as helpful as we’d hoped. Here’s a look at what to expect: open.substack.com/pub/jennyefi...

Oh yes. Most notable was how Marty Walsh in his first year as mayor botched snow removal thereby by cutting all roads down one lane. My 20-min commute ended up being 2 hours. I got to have nice long panic attacks in my car every night.
Remember the winter of Snowmageddon?

In just three weeks in 2015, Boston was crushed with over 7 feet of snow, three times as much as during the historic Blizzard of 1978.

Here's a look back at the snowiest winter on record. trib.al/pllmTCI

It’s a tough place to be when you suspect your dog might be in pain, but handling and vet visits are too stressful. The good news is you can still access help for your dog in a low stress way. This week’s post dives into how open.substack.com/pub/jennyefi...

Finished watching a doc this weekend that didn’t have to do with dogs, but underscored how normalized it is to see the behavior of others simply through the lens of our convenience. Especially when the other is someone we’re caring for.

In Massachusetts, officials suspect that the bird flu has killed dozens of wild birds in Boston, Amherst, and Plymouth. In other states, it’s reached poultry farms.

We asked infectious disease experts what you can do to keep yourself and your pets safe during this outbreak.
‘Do I need to take down my bird feeder?’ and other questions about bird flu in Mass. - The Boston Globe
Dogs and people should avoid contact with wild geese, experts said.

I have a newsletter + community focused on the intersection of health and behavior. In this week’s post I rounded up 3 of the most annoying (and harmful) myths that keep us from seeing what’s *actually* going on with our dogs and thus helping them when they need it. open.substack.com/pub/jennyefi...
Don't fall for these 3 myths
Sadly they're very common (and very harmful)

"Individual rescue is not enough. By building an animal-friendly infrastructure, we can embed compassion for animals into the basic structures of our shared society."

My latest, on how cities can build a better infrastructure for humans, animals, and the environment, today at @latimes.com.
Opinion: Building safer cities means protecting animals too, not just humans
Humans in Los Angeles, California and beyond have to rethink infrastructure to consider our wild and pet neighbors.
