Remember how cool and exciting the Smash Bros. Dojo blog was for Brawl? Every weekday morning brought a new post, an exciting little gift. Even something stupid like the sticky bomb was intriguing enough. The experience thrived on peaks and valleys. Brilliant. 18-year-old me loved it.

I bought GO-MAN for our downstairs neighbor’s son and when we go out to dinner he always brings it up. Last week he asked me if I thought there would be another one. I teased that I might know about a sequel and he looked at me deeper than I’ve ever been looked at before and just stayed silent.

In high school, the captain of the tennis team got on stage at an assembly and off-handedly said he knew everyone thought tennis was “kind of gay,” and a teacher vaulted on to stage to interrupt and make him apologize. Two years later I tutored him and he was so ashamed he could barely look at me.
