⚖️ Who is best in place to regulate the use of research output for training generative AI systems?
In our new post, Dmitry Kochetkov explores this question and shows how generative AI is reshaping copyright and the future of scholarly publishing.

New preprint on arXiv: “Who Owns the Knowledge? Copyright, GenAI, and the Future of Academic Publishing”. I argue that training GenAI on scholarly outputs should not be treated as a fair use exception.

Intriguing and worth reading even if I find it hard to judge how meaningful is Ben’s Bridging Metric. Very much enjoyed the Hamming quote: “I cannot prove the cause-and-effect relationship; I can only observe the correlation”, which seems to me to apply to a lot of metascience questions! ;-)
What counts as interdisciplinary research? And can we tell who is actually funding it, versus just talking about it? A data-driven deep-dive from me here: open.substack.com/pub/johnsonb...
