Djurdja Jovanovic Padejski examines language patterns in climate journalism and anti-climate propaganda through interviews with leading environmental reporters

I have been researching semantic features of key environmental terms in the news. In my pre-research phase I spoke with six hard-working and incredibly smart journalists. I felt like what they said here was too meaningful to stay offline and thanks to my talented child Andjela Padejski it is up! 1/3

This is going to be a much bigger problem.

I was pleasantly surprised to read in this text that @timothysnyder.bsky.social traveled to Serbia in July, where he followed the student-led protests. I look forward to the longer chronicle.
Also - today marks 10 months since the student blockades started. The fight goes on. ✊

Berkeley/Oakland earthquake: MyShake app actually warned us seconds before we felt shaking, which - if it were a bigger one - would have been helpful in being less disoriented. But it was stressful hearing the warning in the metallic voice right in your bedroom. Also, we need a drill.

When Yugoslavia was falling apart and civil war started, we were clutching our pearls so hard and we were disgusted and shocked and certain that somebody will do something. That didn’t last long because we sold pearls for food we had to wait in line for 1/2

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

So, it’s Saturday in September 2025 and I am thinking if and how should I get my grown up child out of Chicago. If someone told me this while we were hiding from the bombs when she was 8 months old, I’d never believe them.

Today’s court ruling is what we’ve been warning about for months: Trump is unlawfully using the military to terrorize Americans, including kids and hardworking immigrants — many of whom have contributed to this country and are part of American families.

What an irony: the situation that creates ample opportunities for my research, is the situation that cuts funding for my research.
Ahead of President Trump’s second term, scientists and advocates sought to tighten rules that protect climate researchers and their work from political interference.
The Trump administration has now rolled those changes back.
