From Ed Yardini: “Like Bessent, Warsh believes that the US is entering a productivity-led boom, largely driven by artificial intelligence (AI), tax cuts, and deregulation.”…

Matt Levine: “Once touted as an inflation hedge or a rival to gold or the US dollar as a stable store of value, Bitcoin has continued to trade more like a high-risk asset and has failed to serve as a haven during times of financial market stress.”

“The Times is doing very well, mostly due to its games, cooking, puzzles, and other non-news related features” It’s not just good for the brain. Playing SpellingBee, Connections and Strands is keeping the NY Times alive. Plus the cooking app, which is a bit hinky but does have a lot of depth.

Working my way through the three This Mortal Coil albums. Great music from the 80’s and early 90’s. I heard many of these tracks over the years, but didn’t connect the dots.

We do have the smartest PM: If you are not at the table, you are on the menu,” Mr. Carney warned. “When we only negotiate bilaterally with a hegemon, we negotiate from weakness. We accept what is offered. This is not sovereignty. It is the performance of sovereignty while accepting subordination.”

Thanks to the Guardian for listing the Top Thirty live albums. I’m especially loving Portishead Roseland NYC Live 25. Probably my favourite Portishead album so far. Full orchestra adds so much to the arrangements.

Something else to look forward to: A lot of people when they’re putting their underwear on or shoes or socks, will try and stand on one leg as they do that,” O’Brien says. “Often that’s something that we stop doing as we get older, and we sit down because it’s a little bit safer.”

Not a slow horse: Mr. Ames left a briefcase with highly sensitive documents on a train, potentially exposing a Soviet diplomat working for the C.I.A. Yet he was promoted twice: to the New York station, and then, in 1981, to Mexico City, a hotbed of Soviet espionage in the Western Hemisphere.

Stephen Miller spells out his fascist thoughts for all to see. Even Kissinger kept it quiet.
“We live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power,” he said. “These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time.”

Us Economy Grows: “Economists say higher-income households are driving spending, thanks to a stock market boom that has inflated household wealth. Middle - and lower-income households have mostly pulled back because of high inflation, partly blamed on President Donald Trump’s import tariffs.”#konomy

Sound familiar? 3. The cult of action for action's sake, which dictates that action is of value in itself and should be taken without intellectual reflection. This, is connected with anti-intellectualism and irrationalism, and often manifests in attacks on modern culture and science. Umberto Eco

Matt Levine: “Anyone who has ever looked at social media knows that “superintelligence” and “engagement” are opposites. Perhaps the intelligence of AI models is capped — not in computer science theory, but in commercial practice — at the intelligence of a social media feed.” Nothing to worry about!

Matt Levine: Will crypto collapses bring down banks or traditional financial institutions, leading to restrictions in real-world credit? So far the answer has been absolutely not. The ties between crypto and traditional finance have been too small and too carefully managed to cause much contagion.
