#2026dimilixweek entry for day 4 - felix's mouth
Time ticked down slowly in the dark of the closet. It was close and warm, which Dimitri imagined was partly the incandescence of Felix's rage at being forced into this situation. He'd said nothing for the, oh, two and quarter minutes (Dimitri was counting; what else was there to do?) since Mercedes, hands fluttering, herded them into Annette's hall closet for seven minutes in what Dimitri would describe as purgatory. Dimitri, for his part, had said, "Sorry," as the door clicked shut behind them. Felix dignified that with an irritated noise, understandably—the first time they'd been alone together in years and it was in complete darkness, in a space so small Felix had nowhere to be that wasn’t right where Dimitri was. Dimitri shifted, trying to give Felix more room. Hangers clattered noisily against each other, startlingly loud. "Sorry," Dimitri said again. The chasm of Felix's answering silence itched at Dimitri. "You're a good friend," he continued, grasping. "I know it isn't ideal, but going through with this... game, for the sake Annette's birthday, is kind of you. With the shape her childhood took it seems important that in adulthood she be allowed the liberty of play—" "Oh my god," Felix muttered. Dimitri paused. "Do you disagree?" "It's not called seven minutes of psychoanalyze your friends," Felix said. Felix's voice, at normal speaking volume, seemed to wash over and through Dimitri. Something inside him clenched with pained and sudden want. He recognized their usual dynamic, magnified. Felix withholding, Dimitri abiding—but with darkness and proximity, Dimitri knew more precisely than ever the shape of what he was missing. "Is there something you would prefer to talk about?" he asked quietly. "Why talk," Felix said. "Why not just enjoy the total darkness and smell of mothballs?" "You raise a good point," Dimitri said. "About the darkness, I mean. It's the perfect opportunity to fulfill my dream of trying on Annette's old Catholic school uniform. I always thought the skirt would flatter me." Felix choked out a laugh beside him. Dimitri flushed with unprecedented satisfaction. "Jesus," Felix said. "Seven minutes in heaven—it really does all go back to Our Lady of Perpetual Cold and Suffering." "I thought we weren't psychoanalyzing our friends," Dimitri said. He heard Felix shift, and his voice came clearer, as though he'd turned to face Dimitri. "It's your idea of heaven I'm talking about." Dimitri swallowed. "And are we not friends?" Something strange happened to Felix's breathing. A skip, a rush. Then silence, like he'd stopped entirely. "We can talk about something else," Dimitri said, his voice an apology. Another beat. "Why talk," Felix said again, quieter this time, and then his mouth was on Dimitri's, unchaste and perfect. Their bodies were flush against each other. Felix parted Dimitri’s lips with his own and Dimitri learned very suddenly about the texture and devastating heat of Felix’s tongue. Felix's hands tangled in Dimitri's hair, keeping him locked down, held exactly as Felix wanted him. Dimitri had no idea what his own hands were doing. One fluttered near Felix’s hip, the other pet clumsily at his hair. He had to stage a conscious, deliberate effort just to breathe. He heard a groan and was startled to recognize it as his. "Good," Felix whispered savagely. Dimitri's insides were molten. Felix could do anything, anything he wanted with him. He bit at Dimitri's lower lip and Dimitri groaned again, incautiously loud. His hands flexed, wanting. "Felix—" Then it was over, as suddenly as it had started. Distance sprung up between them again. Somewhere beyond the closet door, a timer beeped. Felix’s hands were the last thing to leave Dimitri’s body, only by a millisecond, but Dimitri felt it as much longer. Their friends were calling for them. Dimitri breathed heavily, blinking and winded while Felix pushed past him to the door. The light from the hall was blinding, and he saw only enough of Felix to know Felix wasn’t looking back at him. Dimitri stood a moment longer in the comfort of the half-dark. He felt dizzy. He felt ravaged. Taking stock of himself, he was shocked to find he was achingly hard. “Fuck,” he said. He opened his hand, clenched tight, and found Felix’s hair tie, a red circle sitting in his palm.

Sylvain is convinced you two would be a good match, however.” “Why.” Edelgard glanced at Sylvain before looking back at Felix. “...He's tall, for one.” Felix glared at Sylvain as he snorted a laugh. “For the last time, I do not have a height thing—” “You absolutely have a height thing,” Sylvain said, gesturing at his own body. “Ugh. That was high school—” Edelgard ignored the banter and Hubert's sigh. “Also, he's quite good at fencing.” That got Felix's attention. Fencing was a fairly rare hobby; it was hard for him to find new people to spar with. He could feel Sylvain's giddy stare and sighed. “Go on.” Or, Sylvain convinces Edelgard to help him set Felix up on a blind date that has a high chance of failure.

Felix used to consider irony a mark of idleness: no one who had anything better to do would sit around constructing a story about themself, retelling it for no audience. Now there isn't enough work in the day for him to steer clear of dramatization. The hill that Fhirdiad castle sits upon was shorn in half by an earthquake nearly half a century ago and took most of the castle down with it. Claude's rule was new then, and resources were too scarce to bother saving a palace that would never again house a living king. Felix arrived shortly thereafter, pushing against the exodus of the surviving residents of the castle town. His first weeks in the remains of Castle Fhirdiad were spent digging out the royal crypt. No way to tell what was left intact. The memory of it is sharp still. The work tore all the fingernails from both his hands. He slept with dust in his mouth and beneath his eyelids for the better part of a moon. When at last he uncovered the engraved marble slab marking Dimitri's grave, he lost all feeling in his legs for a time. When he could stand again his torch had gone out. He'd have been lost, in the Fhirdiad of his childhood; as it was, he made it back out into the waning sunlight only because the path he'd dug was too narrow to stray. pig peeking out of a hole emoji, plus alt text continued: Now all the pathways are clear and Felix's back is bent with toil. In his younger days he'd have to fend off grave robbers now and again, and it punctuated things nicely. No one's come in years. He expects this is because no one really speaks of the Blaiddyds anymore. What is to him a memory is to other people history: easy to tune out, and with little bearing on their lives. He isn't sure stories are worth much more, but they are the last thing he has to his name. In one unwritten volume is everything he's forgotten ever saying to Dimitri, but knows he must have said—the babble and arguments of children, of mindless hours spent alongside one another—and the second, slimmer volume, worn with recitation, is what he recalls of their time together. Become a gravekeeper, he'd told Dimitri once. He laughs, touching his hand to the memory like a stone in his pocket, and the walls of the crypt hand his voice back to him doubled: the way he felt he was once, back when his heart walked around outside him, and to serve him was to serve them both—to fail them, he has since found, is the same.

Particularly because anyone who asked would probably be an adult, and therefore consider ‘I just know what Mitya is thinking’ merely another way of saying that they’ve been friends practically since birth. No one would suspect that it is an entirely literal statement. Even Felix doesn’t dwell on the specifics of it much. He is content to know how Dimitri feels and finds it convenient how easily they understand the general shape of each other’s thoughts. No one else understands him like his Mitya does. Not even Glenn or Sylvain. It’s just another facet of his life. Nothing particularly worthwhile. Until the nightmares come.
