#iwsg2025 Is over, and I already missed it. Happy that so many people wanted to chitchat with me about my vaporware poster about 3D nest morphology, or about our( @dillensegerg.bsky.social ) project about Andean shorebird breeding timing! See you next year @waderstudy.bsky.social !

Throwback to 2021, when me and @dillensegerg.bsky.social had the honor to be invited to participated in the chaccu, the roundup of the vicuña to shear the wool. It was hard to chase them while running at >4.500 meters of elevation near Arequipa!

@dillensegerg.bsky.social gives a very interesting talk at #EOU2025 @eounion.bsky.social on the effect of rainfall on breeding phenology in Andean shorebirds! 🐣☔

Amazing poster of @sangeeth-sailas.bsky.social from JCU South Bohemia presenting one of his PHD chapter: global analysis of raptor, which raptors suffer from intentional mortality and deserve more protection measures at #EOU2025

Justine Delautre, M1 student in our team from @master-rainet.bsky.social, successful defended her thesis on risks and consequences lapwings are facing when nesting close to forests. We hope to share soon the results with you #ornithology #conservation #PhD #lapwing #shorebird

Curlews eavesdrop on prairie dog alarm calls to avoid danger. Prairie dogs = "keystone information producers" 💚
This thread explains the study outcomes, and the photo of the "badgerinator" used as a predator proxy is just the icing on the cake.

Paper: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
We decided an experimental approach to this question could be cool. So Andrew strapped a taxidermied badger on top of an RC cart and drove the cart toward incubating curlews both while playing prairie dog ground-based predator calls and not (control).

We lovingly call this the badgerinator.

A throwback to our WOS blog post about our 2021 field season in Peru with @calonectris.bsky.social #ornithology #lapwing
There's a new guest post on the WOS blog! WJO author Guillaume Dillenseger describes his work observing the courtship behavior of Andean Lapwings on the harsh, remote Peruvian Altiplano. #ornithology wilsonsociety.org/2024/06/03/g...

Very happy to see our new M1 student investigating the link between forest distance, predation risk and aggressiveness in lapwings in Czech Republic. Stay tuned to see the results of this study #shorebird #predation #lapwing #ornithology
🌲 #birdecology #predation
