Sounds a utopian dream, but unlike utopia might it actually be possible? Great thought to bring about evidence-based responsibility in politics.
‘A Simple Ban on Political Lying Could Radically Transform Our Politics’

Just one small step would trigger a whole series of positive changes to democratic life in the UK, argues Neal Lawson

This really got to me too. Sondland’s remark signposts us towards mob rule. Terrifying.
Bonnie Greer, "I can't think of any time where the electorate would actually think of electing a convicted felon as president of the US"

Gordon Sondland, "The real jury, which are the American people decided he was innocent"

Bonnie Greer, "No, the real jury are the people selected to be the jury"

The juxtaposition of those who would be public guardians of morality and the immorality of their actions/inactions is both extraordinary and excruciating.
One by one, those criticised over Church abuse failings are being held accountable. Of the archbishops: first Justin Welby, now George Carey have taken responsibility, Stephen Cottrell under pressure…The Bishops, though, remain unwilling to face the music.

Cf. Eric Morecambe “I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order”. 😉
Books are a total scam.
Every single word is already in the dictionary—they’re just selling them back to you in a different order.

Neat, but misses the nature of truth. Ignorance is failing to understand the difference between opinion and testable assertion - or why such a difference is crucial to where we are all going. And truth arises from whatever shareable medium we can agree on to publicly test our assertions.

Quite so.
£1.8 billion a year gain with CPTPP

£100 billion a year loss by being outside the EU Single Market

Anyone celebrating the gain with CPTPP without mentioning the corresponding cost of Brexit, is not putting country ahead of ideology

Looks like “woeful” went full circle.
2016: Boris Johnson, "We'll be able to stop the tide of EU regulations.. (Remainers) are woefully underestimating this country and what it can do"

2024: "Marks and Spencer opens warehouse to store Brexit paperwork"

World-beating warehouses for Brexit red tape 🤷‍♂️

Beautifully stated.
"One of the great tragedies of mankind is that morality has been hijacked by religion. So now people assume that religion and morality have a necessary connection. But the basis of morality is really very simple and doesn't require religion at all."

Attractive if you believe people are motivated by greed; rather less so if by socially responsible proportionality.
This would amount to a massive tax cut for the highest paid people in Britain, paid for by higher taxes for low earners and big cuts to public services

Hope so. And that they are stepping back to reflect on the irony of their faith vs the appalling circumstances that surround them.
First serving bishop “steps back” from ministry after being criticised by Makin review over failure to do enough to stop the Church’s most prolific serial abuser. Jo Bailey Wells was Archbishop of Canterbury’s former chaplain. Will others now follow?

Who’d ever have thought?
Left: Keir Starmer says businesses have committed to invest £63 billion of new investment

Right: Bloomberg, "Brexit is costing the UK £100 billion a tear in lost output"

Over five years Brexit is costing us £500 billion, that's 8x what businesses have committed to invest
