They leave such a hole in your life. I can no longer have dogs as I'm too disabled, so I have rescue cats. I do miss big dog energy and cuddles though.

If she's food motivated, I help my dog by tossing dry dog food on the floor like I'm feeding chickens. She's distracted enough by the food to get through the worst of the fireworks. I did have one that just needed Benedryl (which is safe for dogs) and one who needed the good stuff to sleep thru them

They are the softest dogs I've ever petted. They aren't common in the US and I've only seen them at dog shows. I love retrievers and yet I've never had them, probably because they rarely come into rescue - it's mostly hounds and pit bulls, both of which I love dearly.

Of course he'll get another treat - he's the bestest boy in the world. He looks like he's made of silk. Is he a flat coated retriever? I'm glad I could help a little. I know how it is when you are out of work but still have to take care of family. I hope he's better soon!
