Funniest thing about this book is I was trying to write something relatively fluffy (it's why page one mentions bakery--you know, very cozy).
the big thing I want to try to do this year is to muscle past my focus issues and do more reading, since I've been scraping by with the bare minimum for a couple of years.

I showed the opening paragraphs to @devi.bsky.social, who said it was very fresh and different from my other work, and then I was like 'yeah but the American character doesn't have a lot of interiority', at which point she volunteered to give her some. This was how Maria Ying came to be.
