HUGE news, this changes everything

I thought Ikoku Nikki was amazing and no one should skip it, but actually, it's better & watching should be mandated by law

Embarrassing example of the commodification of artists through this new wave of "sakuga discourse" (hypeposting about action anime) is joking about a person working under a different name after going through a rough patch wrt mental health. Wanting a clean start is not "a bad attempt at fooling you"

K-on!! Episode 9 kinda almost had me sobbing

Seeing Yui's growth as a person and her wanting to do something for the granny next door was so nice.

Juggling both the talent show and her exams while succeeding at both, i feel like a proud dad😭😭

Another heavy episode about memories, grief, and trauma hovering over survivors. And yet, it culminates in a beautiful scene where this welcoming environment allows Asa to establish her identity. To convey this, guest animator Naoya Takahashi makes the show's naturalism more charismatic than ever

The Frieren anime will never get enough credit (and conversely, the source material doesn't get enough flak) for the increase in specificity in the depiction of cultures. Often hazy locations become places where people eat a certain way, have architecture of their own, display tangible imagery, etc

Aronofsky has never had anything to say, he simply desired the appearance of artists who do. He was, in many ways, an AIbro before those could exist

I finished reading the Ikoku Nikki manga yesterday and it has been one of the most fulfilling and cathartic reads i have done

Really glad I picked it up after the first anime episode, and i'm even more excited for how the adaptation will tackle the rest

It's cool that Kyouhei Ishiguro woke up one day and suddenly decided to be the greatest anime opening director. Like yeah now he only makes insane, thematically rich sequences on good anime, where he matches indie adventurousness with polish exclusive to commercial work. Seihantai nation we up

What if they made a show about how capitalism doesn't just cause harm, but relishes the opportunity to kill, making a spectacle of it for a cruel ruling class? What if it was directed by the biggest arthouse weirdo who has risen within the industry recently?

What if Souta Ueno's Shiboyugi was real?

unfair for every other anime this season to air alongside shiboyugi and ikoku nikki

Death game premises are by no means new but it takes an insanely deranged person to be able to present it in a way ShiboYugi's premiere does, and i mean this in the best way possible.

Hyakuemu's acclaim reminded me of the Uoto interview asking about anime influences where they went "idk I don't watch much, but I love Eupho & Shirobako so much they gotta be influential for me". Wanted to rant so much about Kumiko and Myaamoru it split off into a separate blurb. Truly based author
Came across an itw with Chi's author where they confess to not watching much anime but LOVING Eupho and Shirobako. Their only request to the anime team was to get Kensuke Ushio, whose music they first heard in Ping Pong and fell in love with through Koe & Liz and the Blue Bird. We were meant to be
Caught up with Chi / Orb. Ep #03 is outsourced and its technical execution falters a bit, but it's nicely directed. Everything Shimizu's boards & Masato Miyoshi's processing attempt is fundamentally sound and furthers previous themes to conclude that human curiosity is inescapable. Fun twist too!
