I found a famous celebrity in the Epstein Files. It was website copy filled with GoogleAds for tabloids. So, apparently, every public figure is "in the files". I won't hop on the "I found xy ergo he must be cancelled"-train without proper evidence that they actually knew anything. Kthxbye

„To prevent hard-core get-it-done types from inflicting slop on the rest of us, we need to agree that my sending you material written by ChatGPT is insulting, the same way you would be insulted if I were to play a recording of myself saying ‚Oh, that’s interesting‘ every time you spoke.“

Wenn Tech-CEOs uns Science Fiction versprechen, sollten wir eins aus all den Science-Fiction-Geschichten lernen: Die mächtigen Konzerne sind immer das Problem, nie die Lösung.

Got it! Thanks 🙂

I would be lying if I said I had been thinking of differential effects, before your response. 😅

Thank you very much for your thorough explanations 🙂

Yes, that was my idea.

Well, the other three curves have similar progressions, so I would expect the curve of boys with migration background to also be similar. Which isn't the case. But I guess that's a post-hoc hypothesis.

You may have answered these in the text. If that is so, I apologize for only going by the graphs. 😰

I could imagine that boys with a migration background profit more or quicker from the end of the isolation they experienced during the pandemic? Could this be some sort of rebound?

This and the survey mode effect might be an effect of socioeconomic background. Is there a way to assess this?

Only judging from this figure, the differences between girls from different backgrounds don't look significant to me. The only group with unexpected results would be boys with migration background doing much better than expected.
January 30, 2026 at 12:13 PM
Interesting work!

Seeing the plots, I have a couple of questions: The effect size in all differences appears small to me. Would you consider differences of <1 on a 5-point-scale relevant?

The error bars are larger in boys and girls with a migration background. Is this due to sample sizes?

it could also be that paper mills and other actors found new ways to create fakes and it will take a while for that 2nd generation of AI nonsense to be detected reliably. In that case, we should expect new surges in retractions in the following years.
January 30, 2026 at 10:05 AM
That's a good question that I can't answer.

You can see a surge in retractions in 2023 and 2024 that is very likely connected to LLM-adoption-issues. If it was an ongoing issue you'd expect retractions to further increase, which isn't the case. However, ...

The plot shows retractions per month from 2000 to 2025 as registered by RetractionWatch.

The discussion about AI slop flooding the scientific literature is still hot, the absolute number of overall article retractions went down to pre-LLM-levels in 2025. Looks like adjusted filter mechanisms are working for now?

My resolution for the year is to go back to having creative hobbies rather than playing video games all the time.

So, for the last two weeks or so, I have been looking at a wide variety of tutorials on Python, drawing and storytelling.

Now YouTube suggested this video. 😖

Unfortunately, fully AI generated "knowledge content" channels are doing pretty well on YouTube, for example.

Solche Vergleiche braucht man gar nicht mal, um zu verstehen, dass das Unrecht ist und in einer freiheitlichen Demokratie nichts zu suchen hat.
