A Veterans Day story

It’s the norm now for restaurants to do Veterans Day deals. Big discounts, free meals, etc….

This all started by accident, 20ish years ago.

There was a franchise Applebees on a military base. They decided to give free meals to vets on vets day, and promoted it locally.

As a restaurant operator, I see first hand every generation that comes up. I’ve never been worried until now.

Gonna try another old-Twitter-style thread, since the last one got a lot of engagement. This time about a topic some people have raised, but needs more attention: the likelihood that Trump's tariffs will become an engine of immense corruption 1/

Mo - I’m really torn about this show. Good comedy. Based in Alief. Tries to tackle a very hard and divisive topic surrounding Palestinian identity and occupation. Some components of the show balanced this well. But having it end the way it did on Oct 6th was too much.

Accepted a job offer.

14 months and 150 applications.
Got a job rejection letter for a job I applied to on Nov 5th.

Organizations desperately need help. They are clueless.

Last time Trump levied similar steel tariffs, it led to an increase of~ 1,000 jobs in steel production -- but 75,000 *fewer* manufacturing jobs in downstream firms where steel or aluminum are an input into production.

God damn.
New via NYT — The CIA sent the White House an unclassified email listing all employees hired by the spy agency over the last two years to comply with an executive order to shrink the federal work force. One former agency officer called the reporting of names a “counterintelligence disaster.”

This could be a reasonable question, in a world where Leavitt didn’t just lie about spending $50 million on condoms in Gaza. But she did, which leads me to question her credibility.

The restaurant business as we have known it is dead. The financial model no longer works. If this were the coal industry, or steel industry, or automotive industry… it would be massive, breaking news every day. But no one gives a fuck.

Where have these people been?

It’s almost like the media ignores the fact that there is a military in Gaza that has been actively at with Israel.

They want to serve the narrative that Israel is just bombing innocent people, and these soldiers don’t exist.
Hamas reemerges in Gaza, badly bruised but still with influence
The return of fighters to Gaza streets highlights how Israeli bombardment has failed to achieve Netanyahu’s goal or eradicating Hamas as a political force.
